It seems I've been working on my district assessments forever. In reality, it's only been about five years, but my expertise in the language language does not always jive with the expereince of assessment professionals in the district. For example, my assessment office desires "discrete" standards, and rejects the blend of the 5 C's. Any of your insights would be most welcome.

Presently I work as the supervisor of languages for an unnamed urban school district. I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Administration, Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. In my six years as a supervisor, many positive changes have taken place. During that time, we implemented language magnet programs at the elementary and middle school levels; we brought about the introduction of heritage speakers classes in Spanish at the middle and high school levels with great assistance from my contemporaries in ESL, we now have a K-12 dual language program; we have established CRTs in line with state and national standards. I have also exercised leadership in problematic areas. In 2002, our established foreign language exploratory classes (FLEX) at the seventh-grade level were discontinued. Because of budget shortfalls, our textbook adoption was delayed twice. As the teacher shortage is particularly acute in this division, I spend a great deal of time recruiting teachers and supplementing professional development for novice teachers.
